The su-techtalk mailing list is an open, unmoderated, unrestricted list (at least until or unless the spam starts pouring in!) intended for discussing pedagogical uses of technology.
To subscribe to this list, send a message from your SU email account to majordomo@southwestern.edu with the following lines in the text (not the subject) of the message:
subscribe su-techtalk
end
We hope you find this mailing list useful. However, if you ever want to remove yourself from it, simply send a message to majordomo@southwestern.edu with the following command in the body of your email message:
unsubscribe su-techtalk
end
If you subscribed from an account other than your SU one, send this command instead:
unsubscribe su-techtalk your email address
end
Send this command from your new account:
unsubscribe su-techtalk old-address
subscribe su-techtalk
end
Replace old-address with the address under which you used to be subscribed to the list.
If you ever need to get in contact with the owner of the list, (if you have trouble unsubscribing, or have questions about the list itself) send email to owner-su-techtalk@southwestern.edu . This is the general rule for most mailing lists when you need to contact a human.
To post a message to this list, so all the subscribers see it, address your message to:
Turn off HTML formatting and don't attach any files to your message. Messages should consist of plain text only. You must send your messages from the address you subscribed from, or the list processor will not respond to your commands or distribute your message.
If you wrote it, and it is of general interest to people who are interested in using technology to enhance teaching, post it! Here are some sample topics:
These guidelines are simply good mailing list etiquette, spelled out here for the sake of clarity and completeness.
If your message doesn't clearly and directly relate to pedagogical uses of technology, don't post it.
Don't continue an irrelevant thread in any way (rebuttal, rebuke, rerun, revision, remark). Don't post "Me, too!" or "I don't know!" or "Thank you!" messages.
Don't post personal messages to a single subscriber.
Don't post personal attacks. Do not point out grammatical, spelling, or usage errors.
If something cute, interesting, or funny is making the rounds (Microsoft or Disney paying for your e-mail, press release about Microsoft God, the origin of spam, etc.), don't post it.
If you are wondering whether your e-mail works, don't use the list to test it.
Check your facts on anything you post. Do not under any circumstances post virus warnings, chain letters, news alerts, or anything else designed to be "forwarded to everyone you know" to this list. Never post hearsay without checking the fact yourself (searching the Web to confirm the information usually takes only a few minutes).
